Abstract
This six pyrethrin esters found in extracts of pyrethrum flowers were separated by high performance liquid chromatography, using a double μ-Porasil column and a 1:1 mixture of anhydrous dichloromethane and water-saturated dichloromethane at the mobile phase. Monitoring the eluent for ultraviolet (UV) at 254 nm and integrating the areas of the individual peaks proved to be a rapid and accurate method for quantitating each of the pyrethrins. Due to the high motor absorptivity of the pyrethrins in the UV, the method is also suitable for analysis of crude pyrethrum extracts, methanol, and Shellsol-T insoluble residues. © 1982, OUP.
