Abstract
Sound production in the tsetse fly, Glossina morsitans, was studied in the frequency range from 0.5 to 100 kHz. It was found that the sound has an ultrasonic component and that this component is related to the behavior of the fly. There is a consistent difference between mating and feeding sounds in the spectrum above 15 kHz. There is also a consistent difference between the sounds produced by males and females in that the former rarely produce sounds with significant energy above 15 kHz. © 1975 by the Acoustical Society of America.
